PHOENIX - The two-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury today added guard Alexis Gray-Lawson and forward April Sykes to the team's training camp roster, the team has announced. 2014 Phoenix Mercury training begins April 27 and the 2014 season tips off May 17.
Gray-Lawson, a 5-8, 180-pound guard, is a familiar face to Mercury fans after originally signing with the club on Feb. 24, 2011, and spending both the 2011 and 2012 seasons with Phoenix. The former University of California standout averaged 4.1 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 46 games, all as a reserve, in her career in Phoenix.
Currently playing for H.R. Le-Zion in Israel, the 26-year-old Gray-Lawson is averaging 20.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists.
Sykes, a 6-1, 183-pound forward, was selected 28th overall (third round) by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2012 WNBA Draft. The 23-year-old Sykes appeared in 30 games as a rookie with the Sparks, averaging 3.1 points and 1.1 rebounds in 8.6 minutes. She finished her collegiate career at Rutgers ranked sixth in school history in three-point field goals made (138).
