Mercury Announce New Uniforms For 2016 Season

The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury will have familiar faces donning a new look for the 2016 season as the team welcomes back all five starters from the 2014 Championship team and announces new purple and orange uniforms. Fans will have the opportunity to see the updated jerseys in-person when the team takes on the Seattle Storm at Talking Stick Resort Arena on Friday, May 20, in the 2016 Fry’s Food Stores Home Opener. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

In its quest for its fourth title, the Mercury will feature a deep purple “primary” uniform and orange “amplify” uniform, either of which can be worn at home or away.   The purple color is a deeper shade than team’s previous road uniform, now more in line with the Mercury’s primary logo and brand identity.  The orange is a brand new addition and, at minimum, will be worn by the Mercury for all Sunday home games in 2016.  No WNBA team will wear a white uniform.

In addition to the new colors, the Mercury’s uniform will feature a number of unique features, including the Mercury’s 20th Season logo on the front right strap of the jersey and the WNBA’s 20th season logo on the back, just below the nape of the neck. The Mercury will also be one of four teams throughout the league to feature a tab on the back of the jersey’s collar highlighting championships won by the franchise.  Phoenix’s tab will feature three trophies representing 2007, 2009 and 2014 titles.

As the presenting partner of the Mercury, Casino Arizona and Talking Stick Resort will maintain marquee placement on the front of the jersey above the player number. Below the player number will be placed the Verizon Wireless logo; Verizon is the recently-announced marquee partner of the WNBA.

The starting lineup that won it all in 2014 is back!  Diana Taurasi and Penny Taylor return to join 2015 All-Star trio Brittney Griner, Candice Dupree and DeWanna Bonner as the Phoenix Mercury pursue a league-record tying fourth WNBA title in 2016.  Tickets for the Mercury home opener on Friday, May 20, and the other 16 regular-season Mercury home games can be purchased by calling 602.252.WNBA or by visiting PhoenixMercury.com.
