Mercury Announces Date For Penny Taylor Retirement Ceremony

The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury today announced theme nights and premium fan giveaways for the 2017 season, highlighted by the official announcement of legend Penny Taylor’s Retirement Ceremony on Sunday, July 9.  Taylor, who played 10 seasons in Phoenix before retiring after the 2016 campaign, will have her No. 13 jersey retired in the Talking Stick Resort Arena rafters during a post-game ceremony featuring special guests and presentations.

The Mercury’s year of historic nights will also include the countdown to guard Diana Taurasi becoming the all-time leading scorer in WNBA history.  Taurasi, who averaged 17.8 points last season and has averaged 19.9 points for her 12-year career, enters 2017 just 178 points shy of the all-time record currently held by 17-year WNBA performer Tina Thompson. The Mercury will commemorate her remarkable accomplishment with a one-of-a-kind bobblehead at a date to be determined.

The entire promotional calendar, which tips-off Sunday, May 14, with the Fry’s Food Stores Home Opener, is listed below and on PhoenixMercury.com.  It includes fan-favorites like the team’s fourth annual PRIDE Night brought to you by Coors Light, IASIS Healthcare “Rock The Pink” in support of breast health awareness, and BBVA Compass Bright Futures Woman of Inspiration Night (special guest TBD).
