Mercury Clinch 2018 WNBA Playoff Berth

The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury will aim for a league-record tying fourth WNBA Championship this postseason after the team clinched its franchise-record sixth consecutive playoff appearance (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), tenth in the last 12 seasons and 13th in franchise history overall.

The Mercury sealed its berth tonight by virtue of Las Vegas’ loss at home to Minnesota.  Already the winningest postseason coach in franchise history, Mercury Head Coach Sandy Brondello has now reached the playoffs in all five of her years at the helm of the Mercury.

If the Mercury finish as the 2nd seed for the playoffs, Phoenix will earn a bye in Rounds 1 and 2 and will host Games 1 and 2 of a best-of-five series in the WNBA Semifinals.  Game 1 would take place at GCU Arena on the campus of Grand Canyon University on Sunday, August 26 due to a scheduling conflict at Talking Stick Resort Arena.  Game 2 would take place back at Talking Stick Resort Arena on Tuesday, August 28.

If Phoenix finishes as the 3rd or 4th seed, the Mercury will earn a Round 1 bye and host a Round 2 single-elimination game at Talking Stick Resort Arena on Thursday, August 23.

If Phoenix finishes as the 5th or 6th seed, the Mercury will host a Round 1 single-elimination game at Wells Fargo Arena on the campus of Arizona State University on Tuesday, August 21, due to a scheduling conflict at Talking Stick Resort Arena.

If Phoenix finishes 7th or 8th, the team will play on the road in Round 1 with the time, date and opponent/location still to be determined.

Tickets will go on sale when playoff dates and rounds have officially been determined.
