Kate Frese
Kate Frese is a photo assistant and league photographer for the WNBA, NBA, and G League, currently working here in Phoenix with the Mercury and the Suns. She came to Phoenix in early 2022 after being hired by the NBA and led by league team photographer, Barry Gossage. She came from Philadelphia, where she was working as a member of the media for all of the major sports teams in the area. She states that the big reason she accepted the job in Phoenix was the opportunity to work with Diana Taurasi.
When she isn't taking photos of your favorite basketball players, Kate enjoys hiking, reading in coffee shops, and spending time with her pet snake, Morticia. She grew up playing sports, creating art, and playing music. By becoming a sports photographer, she was able to combine two of her lifelong passions. She dedicates her work to her mother and late father for always supporting her journey to her dream job that she now has.
Being one of the few women working for the league in the photo department, Kate prides herself on setting an example for the next generation and approaching her work with an empathetic, people-first mindset. She prides herself on making sure her subjects are comfortable in front of her lens and that people feel seen when working around her. Applying intersectional feminism to everything she does, she strives to be an advocate for diversity and inclusion through her photography. In her free time, she mentors young women and non-binary amateur photographers.
