Breaking Down the 2015 Mercury Schedule

Or, perhaps the better question should be: Where will you be June 5?

The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury, presented by Casino Arizona and Talking Stick Resort, released the team’s 2015 regular season schedule as the league’s reigning champions look to defend their 2014 title.

Sure, it’s December, but it’s never too early to look ahead to the WNBA season.

Here’s a month-by-month breakdown of the Mercury’s 2015 schedule:

Overview

 

  • The 34-game regular season schedule (17 home, 17 road) runs June 5 – September 13, a span of 101 days.
  • The regular season opens on Friday, June 5, at US Airways Center against San Antonio. Opening night will feature a special pregame championship ring and banner unveiling ceremonies honoring the 2014 WNBA Championship team.
  • The Mercury will be featured on national six times for the third consecutive season. It is the most national television appearances of any WNBA team.
  • The schedule features two back-to-back sets.
  • Ten of the Mercury’s 17 home games overall will be played on the weekend, including five Friday night contests, one Saturday night tilt and four Sunday afternoon games.

 

June

 

  • Phoenix opens the season against the Stars on June 5. DO NOT MISS THIS GAME!
  • There are four home games and five away games.
  • Six of the nine games are against Western Conference opponents.
  • The team’s first back-to-back of the season is on June 11 and 12 on the road against the Liberty and Fever.
  • Home games are against the Stars on June 5, Lynx on June 14, Sun on June 19 and Stars again on June 30.

 

July

 

  • There are five home games and four away games.
  • Home games come against the Shock on July 2, Storm on July 12, Dream on July 14, Liberty on July 18 and Sky on July 28.
  • Again, six of the nine games are against Western Conference opponents.
  • July features the longest home stand of the season, a span of three straight games at home from July 12 – July 18 against the Storm, Dream and Liberty.

 

August

 

  • After June and July featured nine total games, August is by far the most grueling month with 12 total games.
  • There are six home games and six road games.
  • Seven of the 12 games are against Western Conference opponents.
  • The team’s most brutal stretch likely occurs from August 18 – August 30 where the Mercury will play six games in 13 total days, four coming on the road including a tough four-day road trip where they’ll play three games against the Sun, Mystics and Lynx.
  • The Mercury’s second and final back-to-back set comes again on the road against the Sun and Mystics.

 

September

 

  • There are two home games and two road games.
  • After playing six games in 13 days in August, the team will have four total games in 13 days in September prior to when the WNBA Playoffs begin.
  • The Mercury’s final three games come against Western Conference opponents (Stars and Shock on the road and the Sparks at home).
