Five-on-Five with Leilani Mitchell

How does it feel to be playing for the Mercury again this season?

Great. I think there is great energy here. Everyone’s excited. A lot of new faces. I know personally I wasn’t here last year. Sort of a renewed energy. New excitement. I’m just excited.

Has there been any teammates that you’ve most enjoyed playing with so far?

Everyone really. It’s fun to get out there with D-Rob where we can play together or just watching her. She’s just so quick. So I’ve got to chase her around at practice. [Diana Taurasi] has been here, but I had never actually gotten a chance to play with her and that was one of the reasons I wanted to come to Phoenix. Just to play with someone so great and everyone knows what she’s done.

If you could have any super power, what would it be?

I would like to be able to…what’s it called… time machine? Like snap your fingers and you could be somewhere else! Then I could like go home. We’re always traveling from one season to the next. We don’t get to spend much time with our family or friends. So I would love to be able to snap my fingers and go somewhere else really quick.

Describe your dream breakfast.

It would be laying in bed or overlooking the beach. I would be eating probably an omelet. Yeah, probably just an omelet with toast and avocado. Oh and definitely have to have some hash browns.

What are you expectations as this season continues to unfold?

For me it’s just contribute in whatever way they need. Whether it’s with my outside shot shooting threes or sort of organizing the team and getting other people involved. For the team I think it’s just, our ultimate goal is to win. Everyone’s goal is to win the championship, but take a step back and it’s just improving every single day. If we are doing that and working hard and working together, by the end of the season we’ll be playing the right basketball.
