Griner, Mercury Raise $66,100 For Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts In Houston

The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury and Houston-native Brittney Griner teamed up with X-Factor members to raise $66,100 for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts through their ‘Sunday is for Houston’ fundraising campaign at the team’s regular season finale today at Talking Stick Resort Arena. All proceeds will go directly to hurricane relief efforts in the greater Houston area.

‘Sunday is for Houston’ consisted of a number of interactive fundraising efforts spearheaded by Griner and the Mercury. Prior to the game, Griner hosted “BG’s Breakfast for Houston” at the arena where she mingled with fans in an intimate setting with all admission fees going towards the donation. Griner and her teammates also hosted a live auction following the game, as the players personally donated game-worn gear, autographed merchandise, VIP experiences and more in an effort to raise additional funds for the cause.

The Mercury contributed $1 for every ticket sold to Sunday’s game, which was attended by more than 11,000 fans, and the team donated all proceeds from the sale of an exclusive “Our Hearts Are With Houston” t-shirt that was available at Team Shop locations throughout the arena. The Mercury also accepted cash donations in the Casino Arizona Pavilion before the game, and all fans who donated were entered to win a one-of-a-kind, Mercury-themed, hand-painted woodcarving autographed by the entire 2017 team.

The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury will host a single-elimination 2017 WNBA Playoff game to tip-off the postseason on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Wells Fargo Arena on the campus of Arizona State University.  Tickets to the Mercury’s Round 1 playoff game are now on sale and can be purchased by calling 602-252-WNBA or by visiting PhoenixMercury.com.
