PHOENIX – The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury today announced the team has signed guards Destiny Slocum and Sug Sutton to training camp contracts.

Slocum is a 5-7 guard who was drafted in the second round of the 2021 WNBA Draft by the Las Vegas Aces and appeared in 21 games, including three games during the 2021 postseason. Slocum played three games for the Atlanta Dream a season ago. Slocum began her collegiate career at the University of Maryland and played two seasons at Oregon State University before finishing her senior year with the University of Arkansas. In 127 collegiate games, Slocum averaged 14.2 points per game and 4.8 assists per game.

Sutton, a 5-8 guard, was a third-round pick of the Washington Mystics in 2020, and appeared in 12 games with the team. In her final two seasons at the University of Texas, Sutton was named to the All-Big 12 team twice (2019 – First Team, 2020 – Second Team) and was a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award as the nation’s top point guard. A two-year starter in her junior and senior seasons, Sutton is in the top ten in assists in program history (9th). Her full name is Alecia Kaorie Sutton, and she goes by “Sug” (short for Sugar), the nickname given to her by her father and grandfather.
