Mercury Clinch 2017 WNBA Playoff Berth

The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury will aim for a league-record tying fourth WNBA Championship this postseason after the team clinched its franchise-record fifth consecutive playoff appearance (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), ninth in the last 11 seasons and 12th in franchise history.

The Mercury sealed its berth today by virtue of the Chicago Sky’s loss against the New York Liberty, marking the first time in franchise history the club has made five-straight playoff berths. Mercury Head Coach Sandy Brondello also became the first coach in franchise history to make four-straight postseason appearances. Phoenix currently owns the league’s sixth-best record.

If Phoenix finishes as the 5th or 6th seed, the Mercury will host a Round 1 single-elimination game at Wells Fargo Arena on the campus of Arizona State University on Wednesday, September 6, due to a scheduling conflict at Talking Stick Resort Arena.

If Phoenix finishes 7th or 8th, the team will play on the road in Round 1 with the time, date and opponent/location still to be determined.

Tickets will go on sale when playoff dates and rounds have officially been determined.
