Thanks to the generosity of the X-Factor, the best fans in the WNBA, the Phoenix Mercury raised more than $14,000 for The OneOrlando Fund during the team’s third annual PRIDE Night this past Saturday, June 18. The money will be donated to benefit the families of the victims of the attack in Orlando on June 12.
“The generosity of our fans on Saturday raised more money than we could have expected,” said Mercury and Suns President, Jason Rowley. “They bought auction items, t-shirts, made cash donations, all in the name of creating a small positive out of unimaginable tragedy. We are proud to be a part of a community here in Phoenix, LGBT and allies, who so badly wanted to help.”
The money was raised through a silent auction featuring unique experiences and one-of-a kind items, the sale of limited-edition merchandise, and donations at concession stands. Mercury fans from across the country also sent in monetary donations to show their support.
In addition, the team hosted a blood drive in conjunction with the American Red Cross and collected 38 units of blood. According to the American Red Cross, a single blood donation may help up to three different people.
