Mercury Re-Signs Guard Yvonne Turner

The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury today re-signed versatile guard Yvonne (E-von) Turner, the team announced.

The 5-foot-10 Turner, who has spent both of her professional seasons in Phoenix, has been a steady contributor off the bench and provided much-needed production in spot starts in 2017 and 2018, both in the regular season and playoffs.  Turner owns career averages of 4.6 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists while playing in 66 of a possible 68 regular season games in a Mercury uniform.

The Nebraska native earned three starts during the 2018 regular season, which included a seven-point, eight-rebound and career-high seven assist game at Indiana on June 29.  She also earned three playoff starts, one of which came in a must-win Game 3 of the WNBA Semifinals against Seattle in which she scored a playoff career-high 19 points, grabbed a playoff career-high seven rebounds and dished a playoff career-high six assists in a 20-point Mercury win.  Four days later in Game 5 in Seattle, she again tallied 19 points.  Turner started all five Mercury playoff games in 2017, and owns career playoff averages of 8.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 12 career playoff games.

Turner is currently playing in Hungary for Sopron Basket, the team which she nearly single-handedly led to the EuroLeague Final a season ago against Brittney Griner’s All-Star laden UMMC Ekaterinburg squad.  In 26 combined games in the Hungarian League and Euroleague this season Turner is averaging 9.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.7 steals, while shooting 91.2 percent (52-of-57) from the free throw line.  Turner ranks fifth in the EuroLeague in assists (5.6 assists) and third in free throw percentage (91.9).

After coming within one win of a trip to the WNBA Finals, the Phoenix Mercury return in 2019 in search of a league-record tying fourth WNBA title.  Led by the All-Star trio of Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner and DeWanna Bonner, Phoenix opens its title quest on May 25 at Seattle on ABC.  Tickets for Fry’s Food Stores Opening Night on Friday, May 31, at Talking Stick Resort Arena can be purchased by calling 602.252.WNBA or by visiting PhoenixMercury.com.
