Phoenix topped Minnesota in the 2014 Western Conference Finals, 2-1, en route to the WNBA Championship while Minnesota bested Phoenix in the 2012 and 2013 Western Conference Finals. Phoenix won the 2015 regular season series, 3-2, and also won the regular season series last season, 3-1.
Three hundred thirty-three tickets once again have been purchased by Mercury guard Diana Taurasi, and will be available to be claimed by fans on a first-come, first-served basis on the plaza outside the arena before the game. Taurasi’s stack of tickets were claimed in less than 45 minutes before Game 1 of the First Round vs. Tulsa last week.
Phoenix finished the regular season 20-14 (.588) and will look to be the first team to repeat as WNBA champions since the Los Angeles Sparks in 2001 and 2002, and join the Houston Comets (1997-2000) as the only teams in WNBA history to win a total of four WNBA Championships.
The Mercury are led by three 2015 WNBA All-Stars: DeWanna Bonner, Candice Dupree and Brittney Griner, and 2014 WNBA Coach of the Year Sandy Brondello. A key to the Mercury success this season has been the X-Factor as the best fans in the WNBA have helped the Mercury to a WNBA-best home record of 12-4 (.750).
