Phoenix Mercury Offseason Overseas Update: Week 3

Kesley Bone | Center #3 | Liaoning Hengye (China)
Kelsey Bone posted two more 20+ point scoring efforts this week in Liaoning Hengye’s final two games of the Chinese League’s first stage. After scoring 30 points and grabbing nine rebounds in a 73-80 loss on November 5, Bone tallied 27 points and eight boards in Liaoning’s 83-64 win on November 8. The Mercury center started in all 10 games during the first stage for Liaoning, averaging 29.9 points and 11.5 rebounds, while shooting 64.4-percent from the floor. Bone’s team finished 3-7 during the first stage, good enough for a fourth-place finish in the league’s six-team north division. The top two teams from the north and south divisions now move on to the upper group, while the bottom two teams will be in the lower group. The middle two teams from each division will play on November 12 and November 15 to determine the final two teams for the upper and lower groups.

Brittney Griner | Center #42 | UMMC Ekaterinburg (Russia)
Although UMMC Ekaterinburg played twice this week, Brittney Griner did not play in the team’s Russian League game on November 6. Without the all-star center, Ekat still managed to go on to win, 70-53. Giner returned to the court on November 9 to lead her Russian squad to a 73-64 win over Hatay BB in EuroLeague play. She scored a game-high 19 points on 61.6-percent shooting and finished with six rebounds. Griner and Ekaterinburg will enjoy two weeks off, as the team will not take the court again until November 24 for a Russian League game. Ekat’s next EuroLeague game will be on November 30.

Alex Harden | Guard #15 | Hapoel Zichron Maagan Michael (Israel)
Alex Harden led Hapoel Zichron Maagan Michael to its first win of the season to move to 1-1 in Israel league play after turning in another solid performance in her second overseas game on November 7. The Mercury guard scored 18 points, 11 rebounds and a game-high six assists after playing all 40 minutes. Through two games, Harden ranks second in the league in scoring (18.5 ppg) and is tied for 11th in assists per game (4.0). Harden and her Israeli team will not be in action again until December 5.

Isabelle Harrison | Center #20 | CCC Polkowice (Poland)
Isabelle Harrison has continued to turn in impressive performances with her Polish team, CCC Polkowice, while overseas. The Mercury center came off the bench to post team highs in points (16) and rebounds (7) in the team’s Polish League loss on November 5. Harrison was the only Polkowice player to score in double-figures after shooting 72.7-percent (eight-of-11) from the field. She then earned her first overseas start in Polkowice’s EuroLeague game on November 9, again finishing as the team’s only player in double-figure scoring with a game-high 14 points in the loss. The former Tennessee star grabbed a team-high six rebounds and shot 60-percent from the field.

Sonja Petrovic | Forward #5 | ZVVZ USK Praha (Czech Republic)
Sonja Petrovic led USK Praha to a 2-0 record this week, moving Praha to a perfect 9-0 in the ZBL League and 3-0 in EuroLeague play this year. Petrovic came off the bench to score 11 points and grab seven rebounds in Praha’s 129-40 win on November 5. The Serbian then posted game highs in points (20) and rebounds (8) in her Czech team’s 75-69 win against Mersin on November 9. Petrovic is averaging 17.6 points and 6.6 rebounds in seven overseas games this year, while shooting 54.5-percent (42-of-77) from the field, and a near perfect 96-percent (24-of-25) from the free throw line.

Marta Xargay | Guard #10 | ZVVZ USK Praha (Czech Republic)
Marta Xargay finished with two impressive outings this week for USK Praha, averaging 16 points on 55.6-percent shooting during the week. Xargay scored 15 points in 16 minutes after coming off the bench in Praha’s 129-40 win on November 9. The Spaniard shot a blistering 71.4-percent from the field, knocking down one of her three three-point attempts. Xargay finished the week with a 17-point performance on November 9. The Mercury guard connected on two of her six three-point attempts and had three rebounds in 29 minutes of action.
