Phoenix Mercury Raise $24,446 for the American Cancer Society During IASIS Healthcare Rock The Pink Night

The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury raised $24,446 for the American Cancer Society tonight during IASIS Healthcare Rock the Pink Night, the team’s annual initiative to raise awareness and funds for breast health.

“The American Cancer Society’s mission is to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer.  We help people take the steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it is most treatable, through education and early detection.  The Phoenix Mercury Rock the Pink night allows us to share our message and the importance of breast health awareness,” said Coleen McKinstry, senior community development manager for American Cancer Society.  Each dollar raised tonight helps fund groundbreaking cancer research and helps deliver our lifesaving mission.  Tonight was also an opportunity honor cancer survivors and celebrate their lives, and are truly grateful for the special memories the Mercury creates for us. Thank you to our partners, the Phoenix Mercury, who are helping us save more lives from breast cancer, like mine and my mom’s.”

The money was raised through the team’s post-game live auction of game-worn pink uniforms and team gear, silent auction of one-of-a-kind Mercury and WNBA autographed merchandise and pre-game luminaria dedication, Cayla’s candles. Mercury forward Cayla George, who owns and operates a candle and apparel company in her native Australia called Rehmee and Coco, will contribute to the Mercury’s American Cancer Society donation by gifting a portion of the proceeds from online sales of an exclusive pink Mercury-themed candle the company is offering in support of IASIS Healthcare Rock the Pink Night.

In addition to the monetary donations, the Mercury hosted a “Pink Out,” providing 9,500 fans with pink Mercury shirts courtesy of IASIS Healthcare.
