PHOENIX MERCURY SIGNS SUG SUTTON TO TRAINING CAMP CONTRACT

Welcome back Sug Sutton

PHOENIX – The Phoenix Mercury today announced the signing of guard Sug Sutton to a training camp contract.

Sutton appeared in all 40 games (12 starts) for Phoenix last season and averaged 8.2 points, a team-high 4.8 assists (9th in WNBA), and 2.6 rebounds per game. Sutton recorded the first triple-double in Mercury history, posting 18 points to go with 11 assists and 11 rebounds (both career highs) against the Las Vegas Aces on September 8. Sutton joined Sabrina Ionescu as the only players in league history to notch a triple-double in their first two seasons and is the first player drafted after the first round to record a triple-double. She scored in double figures 15 times last season, including two 20-plus point performances.

Sutton was selected 36th overall by the Washington Mystics in the 2020 WNBA Draft and appeared in 12 games her rookie season. The St. Louis, Missouri, native played four years at the University of Texas (2016-20), where she was a two-time All-Big 12 Team selection and two-time finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award – honoring the nation’s top point guard – her junior and senior years.

The Phoenix Mercury will open the 2024 WNBA season on the road against the Las Vegas Aces on May 14, followed by the Fry’s Food Stores Home Opener vs. the Atlanta Dream on May 18. Tickets for the home opener are available at phoenixmercury.com/single-game-tickets.
