Q&A with the Mercury's Noelle Quinn

Mon, May 11, 2015, 5:32 PM

Before chatting with new Mercury guard Noelle Quinn, I asked a few of her former teammates how they would describe the versatile WNBA veteran.

Each person began their glowing response with a variation of the phrase, “amazing teammate.”

Indeed, Quinn is that and much more.

Overall in her career, Quinn has played in 263 of a possible 272 games. She started every game in 2010 with Los Angeles, averaging a career-high 10.2 points. Quinn is a career 33.1-percent three-point shooter and shot a career-best 40.3-percent from beyond the arc in 2012.

Now with the Mercury, Quinn’s leadership and experience will be invaluable.

PhoenixMercury.com: What do you consider your greatest strength that you bring to the Mercury?

Noelle Quinn: I consider my versatility as a strength that I can bring to the team. I take pride in being able to do multiple things on the floor and not getting pigeonholed into one specific position. For me, it’s important to be a threat on the floor at all times.

PhoenixMercury.com: As a veteran, what is the most difficult part of integrating into a new team?

Noelle Quinn: The most difficult part of integrating into a new team is just adjusting to certain nuances. For instance, who sits where on the bus, the dress code, or systematic orders of operation.

PhoenixMercury.com: You are widely recognized as an amazing teammate. What do you attribute that to?

Noelle Quinn: My upbringing. I always try to treat people how I would like to be treated. Being a great teammate is something that I genuinely enjoy. I’ve had the opportunity to be a starter and I’ve also logged a DNP. I’ve had injuries. I’ve been on losing teams. I’ve been on playoffs teams. And with all these experiences, I’ve learned that having great teammates can positively affect any situation.

For you to preface the question with “you are widely recognized as an amazing teammate” is such a compliment. But that’s honestly just who I am. Reputation goes a long way in this league. I’m super proud to have a good one.

PhoenixMercury.com: What is your favorite part of the game of basketball?

Noelle Quinn: I don’t have one favorite part of the game. I enjoy it all!

PhoenixMercury.com: What relationship do you have with some of the Mercury teammates? How well do you know them?

Noelle Quinn: I know everyone from either playing with them or playing against them. My first experience overseas was in Russia playing with Dee. I played in DC with Monique [Currie]. And I have a Cali connection with Shay.

PhoenixMercury.com: How excited are you to play for Sandy again?

Noelle Quinn: Her tenacity and toughness she displayed as a player is also shown through her coaching. She is attentive to detail, extremely thorough, and such a hard worker. She also has so much basketball knowledge. I’m very grateful to get a chance to learn from her again.

PhoenixMercury.com: What’s one thing Mercury fans don’t know about you?

Noelle Quinn: One thing Mercury fans may not know about me is that I play the piano.

PhoenixMercury.com: What message do you have for the X-Factor?

Noelle Quinn: All I have to say to the X-Factor is, “MGHTY MERCURY!” in my Jennifer Gillom voice.
