The Mercury are aiming for their fourth WNBA championship this summer, and that run will be fueled by the return of former MVP and Diana Taurasi.

The greatest guard in franchise history will once again don Mercury purple and orange after taking off the 2015 WNBA season. With just over a month before this year’s campaign tips off, the six-foot scoring machine caught up with The Ringer’s Bill Simmons to talk about playing in Russia, the evolution of basketball and her alma mater, Connecticut.

“Rank these,” Simmons asked Taurasi, “in order of probability this year: UConn winning it all, you winning a fourth gold medal, Phoenix winning another WNBA title.”

Taurasi’s response was rife with her renowned confidence.

“I like my chances on all three,” she said.

Her reasoning was sound. Connecticut did win its fourth consecutive national championship on Tuesday night, beating Syracuse 82-51. As for the othe two goals, Taurasi herself will be largely responsible in tandem with her Mercury and Team USA teammates, respectively.

The WNBA’s brother league also caught Taurasi’s eye, specifically in the form of the Golden State Warriors. In their record-breaking style of play, the Mercury superstar sees more than a hint of how she and her peers learned the game.

“Talk about basketball coming full circle,” Taurasi mused. “Not too long ago, what was it about? The alley-oop with the Clippers. The power game. The spectrum of basketball has shifted to the Warriors. Dribble. Pass. Shoot. Movement. Once in a while you get a fancy highlight, but everything is kind of below the rim the way they play. That’s really being appreciated right now. That’s kind of how we’re taught at a very early age how to play to game in the women’s game.”
