PHOENIX – The Phoenix Mercury will pay tribute to the Valley’s bravest men and women during First Responders Night on Friday, September 11, when the team hosts the Los Angeles Sparks at US Airways Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

In honor of the 14th anniversary of September 11, the Mercury will tipoff the evening with a special moment of silence prior to the game. As part of the recognition, a Mercury player will place an all-team autographed Mercury jersey with “Never Forget” and the number “1” on an empty seat at center court. Following the moment of silence, a Marine will place the chair with the jersey courtside where it will remain empty for the remainder of the game.

Upon entry to US Airways Center, fans will have the opportunity to donate to the 100 Club of Arizona and receive an exclusive Phoenix Mercury firefighter hat for every $5 donation, while supplies last. Fans who donate will be entered into a raffle to win autographed Mercury merchandise.

The Mercury will also honor local first responders during on-court activities throughout the evening, including the Phoenix police and fire departments presenting the colors, the National Anthem sung by a Marine, and first responders ringing the X-Factor siren at tip-off and participating in various in-game contests. The game ball will be presented by former WNBA player and current Marine, Kay Childers.

In addition, The Marines will host a martial arts demonstration in the COURTyard, powered by Verizon, prior to the game from 6:10 – 6:30 p.m. A number of recruitment tables will be setup in the Casino Arizona Pavilion to provide information to fans. Those attending the game will also be able to take pictures with a firetruck displaying the American flag, police SWAT car and a military vehicle, all on the US Airways Center plaza.
