Phoenix Mercury superstar and WNBA legend Diana Taurasi is nearing yet another milestone, this time one that no WNBA player has ever achieved — 10,000 career points. To commemorate this historic achievement, the Mercury is bringing back “The Drive,” a four-part content series presented by CarMax, to highlight stories from Taurasi’s career and her pursuit to reach 10,000 career points.
The first episode debuted today on the Mercury’s social media channels and YouTube. Episode one flashbacks to the 2004 WNBA Draft when the Mercury selected Taurasi first overall and continues through her career today. The following episodes will reflect on significant moments in her career and document the journey to her record-setting game. “The Drive” will showcase a personal side of the fierce competitor, sharing insights into her life outside of the Mercury with friends and family.
Taurasi is a three-time WNBA Champion (2007, 2009, 2014) and two-time WNBA Finals MVP (2009, 2014), WNBA MVP (2009), five-time Olympic gold medalist (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020), six-time Euroleague Champion (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2016) and leads the WNBA in total career points. Taurasi has been named to the All-WNBA First or Second Team 14 times, the most in WNBA history and a 10-time WNBA All-Star among numerous other accolades on and off the court.
CenterCourt Studios, the in-house creative department of the Phoenix Mercury, produced the series. Last year, “The Drive” focused on the legendary career of Mercury mainstay Penny Taylor, and her journey to being inducted in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
