About Bridget Pettis

Bridget Pettis scored the first basket in Mercury history in the team’s inaugural game on June 22, 1997 in a victory over the Charlotte Sting. Selected seventh overall by the Mercury in the 1997 WNBA Elite Draft, Pettis spent six seasons (1997-2001, 2006) with Phoenix, playing a franchise record 154 consecutive games – a mark that still stands today.

Pettis appeared in 165 regular season games in a Mercury uniform and was part of the founding core of Mercury players who helped lead the franchise to playoff appearances in three of the team’s first four seasons and a 1998 WNBA Finals appearance.

Following her playing career, Pettis continued in the WNBA as an assistant coach for the Mercury, helping guide the team to two WNBA Championships (2007, 2009). Pettis, an East Chicago, Indiana, native, was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.

On June 6, 2006, Pettis joined Jennifer Gillom, Cheryl Miller and Michele Timms as the first inductees into the Mercury’s Ring of Honor.
